"I've got one!" Kelsey made her way over to her boyfriend's lap and sat down, snuggling into his chest.

"Oh, this will be good." Zach wrapped his arms around his girlfriend. Ever since they were in 3rd grade, they had this game of constantly daring each other to do random things. Every day one would think of a dare for the other one. In 10th grade, they became a couple, and the dares still continued. Now in college, they still find time to play their game.

Kelsey shook her head, "No seriously, this is a good one." She smiled.

Zach laughed, "Okay, shoot."

"The river in the woods. You have to jump it."

"No way. Awe Kels, it's Christmas break...and you want me to jump a freezing cold river?" Zach whined, smiling.

"What, it's too easy for you?" Kelsey knew the look that Zach was giving her. He was challenging her.

"Sure."

"Okay, do it naked."

Zach's eyes widened. "Okay. But do I get help? I don't think I can jump it with just a running start."

"You can swing from the rope on the old oak tree." Kelsey giggled.

Zach carefully picked Kelsey up off his lap and moved her to sit next to him. He got up and held out a hand for her. "Let's go." He started to walk for the door but turned around at the last second. "Waitttt. Do I have to walk there naked?" He laughed as Kelsey shook her violently and pushed him out the door ahead of her.

With the snow coming halfway up their calves, it took the couple a good half hour to walk to the river in the woods. When they got in the woods, they could hear the water running of in the river. Zach stopped and listened.

"I thought the river was frozen!" He suddenly had second thoughts about this dare.

Kelsey shook her head. "Nah, the water is moving too fast."

They got to the old tree. Zach looked over the land and positioning of the trees to see where the best path would be to take. He walked over to the tree and tugged on the rope. "It won't hold my weight."

Kelsey got up and tugged on the rope. "Nonsense, it most definitely will. But if you're worried about it, keep the rope as a last resort." She turned around and saw Zach stepping out of his pants. "You can put your clothes back on. I was only kidding."

Zach shrugged the slipped the pants back on. He positioned himself in the path he thought was best, rope in hand. He went over what he was going to do in head on last time, making sure he was going to get of the river. He started running full speed, straight for the river. He jumped at the last second. A few seconds later his foot touched the other side of the riverbank. He had made it. Suddenly the rope pulled, before his other foot hit the ground. It was too short. He got lurched backwards in the freezing cold water.

Kelsey slammed her hand in front of her mouth and gasped. "Oh my God!" She started running for the river, the same path that Zach had taken. Zach crossed back over the river soaking wet, and climbed on up the bank toward Kelsey.

"Fail." He shook off like a dog.

"We need to get you home." She gave Zach a glance up and down. He was soaked, no doubt about it. There wasn't one part of him that wasn't wet. His clothes were starting to stick to his skin. She grabbed his hand apologizing, and started walking back home.

Another half hour had passed, Kelsey opened the door and led a freezing cold Zach into the warmth of the house.

Zach started cursing under his breath, "You know, if I took my clothes off the first time and kept them off, I probably wouldn't be this cold. The fact that they're sticking to my skin is making this almost untolerable. The air would have at least dried my skin off, and I would've been able to put my clothes back on, then." He plopped on the couch, quickly taking off his clothes and wrapping himself in blankets. Kelsey went into the next room, grabbed a blowdryer, sat next to him and began to dry his hair. When his head was dry Kelsey began to dry the rest of body, which was still a little damp from the clothes sticking to him.

"You know," Kelsey began after turning off the blowdryer, "I'm sorry I dared you to do that...I should've thought it through a little bit more before I said anything." Kelsey ran her fingers through her hair and looked at Zach, who was flushed and was shivering. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt or anything when you jumped?"

Zach shook his head, "Nah, just wet. And don't worry about it. It happens." He coughed into one of the blankets and sniffled. Kelsey took one of the blankets and snuggled herself under it with Zach, pressing her body up against his to warm him up. It was 3 in the afternoon, and she would have to get up soon to take dinner out of the freezer. She laid for Zach for an hour, and he was snoring regularly. She got up, took a shower, and got dinner out of the freezer.

At six she gently touched Zach's shoulder, to wake him up.

"Do you want any food? I've got dinner for you?" Kelsey sat down next to him and stroked his arm. He got up, coughed into his arm and rolled over, "I'm not hungry." He muffled into the blankets. "I'll just go to bed and lay there for a bit." He slowly stomped up the stairs, a trail of blankets behind him.

It was eleven at night. Kelsey had just finished watching the news, and decided that she was going to join Zach in bed. She opened the door, changed into her pajamas, and crawled into bed with Zach. She snuggled up close to him, sitting very still to listen to his breathing. It was obvious he was congested. She gave him a kiss on his nose, and rolled over so she too could go to sleep.

She woke up for no reason at in the middle of the night. She rolled back over and listened to Zach onces again. He was snoring regularly now, unable to breathe out of his nose. She noticed he had more blankets than he should have had, and got up to look at the thermostat to make sure it was at it's normal temperature. 68 degress, like it was always was every day. She got back into bed, and pressed her back to Zach.

Zach stirred a little, and shortly after he sneeze, "Heh-Shuhhh!"

Kelsey rolled back over to face him, muttering, "Bless you."

Zach moaned and pulled the blankets of his head and coughed into them. "What time is it?" He rolled over and looked at his alarm clock. "One? That's great. Heh-CHOO!"

Kelsey cuddled up closer and stroked his face. "Bless you."

"Thanks."

"Are you ok?"

Zach pulled the covers from his face. "I think so."

"Is there anything you would like?"

"Heh-acho! Heh-shuhh!" Zach took a deep breath after his double sneeze and shook his head. "Nothing I can think of." He turned on the lamp on his nightstand and got up.

"Where are you going? You should probably stay in bed."

Zach got to the bedroom door and answered, "Tissues." He sniffed as if showing her how badly he needed them, and headed for the bathroom.

"I thought you said you didn't want anything!" Kelsey shouted after him, giggling. She heard the opening of a package from the bathroom, which was shortly followed with a wet gurgly nose blow. Her heart melted; she'd never seen him like that before.

Zach returned a few moments later with a tissue box and a red nose. Kelsey got out of bed and led him back into it, with a hand placed carefully on his back. She felt like he was sweating, so she grabbed a thermometer from her nightstand.

"Are you cold?" Kelsey asked, as Zach pulled the blankets over his head again.

"Yes." He shivered. Kelsey got in to bed next to him again. She waved the thermometer in his face. "Just out of curiousity." She said as she slipped the thermometer on Zach's tongue...

Kelsey sat back, turning the light on on her nighstand. She held the thermometer up to the light, adjusting the angle so she would read the temperature accurately. "101.1." She turned and looked at Zach, who was once again hiding his head under the covers. She set the thermometer down and went under the covers with him.

"Are you comfortable?" She asked in the darkness of the blankets.

"Nope."

Kelsey laughed, "Well, you are under a lot of covers, dear."

Zach poked his head out of the covers and got out of bed. "I want to sleep on the couch. I can't fall back asleep here...So I think I'll try sleeping down there." He stopped at the doorway and lifted a fist a couple inches from his mouth. "Heh-chooo!" He sniffled, "Will you keep me company?"

Kelsey got to her feet instantly, "Sure, sure. Of course. She went over and put a hand on Zach's back, rubbing lightly in circles, and led him down the stairs. He plopped himself down on the couch, with his head on Kelsey's lap.

"Do you want anything?" Kelsey asked looking down at Zach, rubbing her hands through his hair.

"Movies?" He coughed into his cupped hands and sniffled.

"At one in the morning? What happened to trying to sleep?"

Zach shrugged. "It puts me to sleep sometimes." He flung a hand in front of his mouth and nose and sneezed. 'Huh-choo!"

Kelsey put her hand on Zach's chest a rubbed. "Bless you."

"Mmm..." Zach closed his eyes.

It was now 3 in the morning. Zach was curled up on the couch on Kelsey's lap. The movie they had been watching (actually the movie Kelsey had been watching, Zach passed out 2 minutes after it started) had ended. Zach was shivering a bit. Kelsey laid a hand on his back.

"Honey," she whispered, "Are you ok?"

Zach stirred a bit under the covers. "Mmm..."

Kelsey carefully adjusted his position so he wasn't on her lap, and got up to get him another blanket. When she came back from the bedroom with a blanket Zach was now fully awake and had a tissue up a few inches from his face. His eyes were half closed, with his mouth open, anticipating the sneeze.

"Zach..." Kelsey began to walk over to the couch and sat down, putting the blanket over his back.

Zach shook his head and sneezed "Huh-TISHOO!" into his tissue. He immediately gave a wet gurgly blow into it, which was followed by another "ACHOOO!!!"

Kelsey put a reassuring hand on his back and rubbed lightly. "Do you want anything, love? I think we might have some cold medicine somewhere..." She started to get up and go to the downstairs bathroom.

Zach shook his head. "Don't bother. I dont need it."

Kelsey stopped and turned around. "Are you going to try to convince me that you're not sick?"

"No, just that cold medicine doesn't do anything...Heh....HUHSHOO!!!" Zach sniffled and covered his mouth, scrambling for a tissue.

Kelsey grabbed another tissue box from the bathroom, and held one out to Zach, who gratefully took it. "Tanks..." He whispered.

Kelsey put the tissue box between them and sat down. "Do you want to to go back to bed?"

Zach nodded, and sneezed into his new tissue. "Yeah, I'm not all that comfy down here anymore..."

Kelsey held out a hand to him and helped him up off the couch and up the stairs. "Come on...Ill tuck you in..."

It was now 4 in the morning. Kelsey had been searching all over the house for extra blankets and sweaters, as Zach had been steadily complaining that he was cold. When Kelsey was satisfied that there were no more blankets or warm clothing items around, she tucked Zach in securely, and laid down in the bed next to him, stroking his hair.

"Do you want to try and sleep?" Kelsey felt Zach's forehead to make sure he wasn't getting worse.

Zach shrugged under the mess of blankets, "I dont really want to do anything. I think I'll just lay here and if I fall asleep, I fall asleep. Just go with the flow I guess..." Zach sniffled. "Can you hand me a tissue? I'd get it myself, but you tucked me in so nicely I wouldn't want to ruin it." He squirmed around a bit, "No, actually, I dont even think I can fully move." He smiled wearily.

Kelsey got up to get the box of tissues from the couch. She took a tissue and held it up to Zach's nose. "I'm going to guess that you want me to blow your nose for you, too?"

Without answering, Zach gave a heartiful wet blow into the tissue, getting Kelsey's hand a little wet. He sniffed a bit, and nodded. "Much better."

Kelsey shook her head, smiling. She balled up the tissue and threw it in the garbage across the room. She turned back to Zach and began rubbing his hair again. "So...How're you feeling?"

Zach tried laughing, but it threw him into a harsh coughing fit. "I can't breathe out of my nose all that well. My head is spinning, it's too congested. I'm cold, but warm, sweating, but I have goosbumps. I'm weak, and I just feel blah."

"Blah, huh?"

"Yes, blah."

Kelsey closed her eyes for a few minutes, only to be disrupted by Zach's squirming under his covers.

"Kels." Zach whispered.

"What's up?" Kelsey didn't open her eyes.

"Gonna sneeze. Need a...heh.... tissue..."

Kelsey sprang up, flailing around for the box of tissues. She grabbed one, and held it up to Zach's face just in time for his powerful, "Huh-shaaaa!"

"Bless you. You ok?"

"Keep the tissue there..." His breathing quickened again, and Kelsey faithfully kept the tissue up to his pink, irritated nose. Zach sneezed a "Heptchoooo!" into the tissue again, and nodded to Kelsey that he was done.

"Bless you again. Do you want to blow your nose?"

Zach shook his head, "I think I'm going to be okay with that for a while..." He shook his head again and sneezed freely into the hair "Heh-heh....ACHOOOO!" He coughed a bit, "Or not."

Kelsey looked at him sympathetically and bit her lip. "Do you want anything?"

Zach seemed to be in deep thought for a while, "Nothing that I can think of...I mean, if there were something you could do, I'd ask you at the drop of a hat, but honestly...I can't think of anything. Ugh." He closed his eyes.

"Try to sleep, I think that's what's best for you right now. Here, I'll stay up and right here next to you...that way, if you need anything I'll be right here..." She kissed the top of his forehead.

He was asleep in minutes.

5 in the morning. 6 in the morning. 7 in the morning. Zach was tossing and turning all night under the watchful eyes of Kelsey. He was no longer tucked in as snuggly as he was a few hours ago, but he still had most of the covers over him, and he seemed to be comfortable. That was good.

Kelsey was exhausted. She had stayed up all night with Zach to make sure that he would get everything he needed or wanted if he were to wake up. After all, his sickness was somewhat her fault.

Kelsey got up to make herself breakfast. She slowly got out of bed, careful not to disturb the weight distribution too much, so she didn't wake up her sick boyfriend. She went around to the other side of the bed, bent down and kissed Zach on his cheek, which was surprisingly warm. No doubt, he still had a fever. She pulled up some more blankets for him that had fallen off of him, and went downstairs to make herself some breakfast.

Kelsey made herself a gourmet breakfast. Eggs, bacon, toast, and some sausage. She quietly sat in front of the TV in the living room and ate her breakfast. She went back to the kitchen, made some toast and poured a glass of orange juice, taking it up to Zach. She put the plate and glass down on the nightstand by Zach, and gently laid a hand on his chest.

"Zach..." Kelsey whispered as she began to stroke his hair, "Honey, I've made you some breakfast."

Zach stirred a little under the covers. "Mmm..."

"Would you like some? Are you hungry?" Kelsey helped a sleepy Zach sit up. He was red and sweating, and his face was pale and cheeks were red.

"Yeah..."

Kelsey grabbed his plate of toast and set it down on his lap. Zach sniffed a little, and slowly started eating.

"How's that doing for ya, hon?" Kelsey handed him his orange juice.

"Good. It tastes good for toast. I bet it would smell great too." He sniffed a bit then continued, "But unfortunately for me, I can't breathe out of my nose."

Kelsey laughed, "It's only toast, what would smell so good about it?" She handed him another piece of toast.

Zach took a small bite out of the new piece of toast and chewed quietly. He shrugged, "I don't know everything you make is so...so...hept-choo!...Ugh...Wonderful." Zach sniffed a bit and continued eating his toast. Kelsey reached over the bed and grabbed Zach a tissue, replacing the toast with it.

"Are you still hungry?" Kelsey asked as Zach folded the tissue in half and blew his nose.

He shook his head. "No, that was good enough for now, thank you darling." He coughed into cupped fists and closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the headboard of the bed. "I'm going to sneeze again..." He started breathing a little more frequently, and his nose was starting to get redder around his perfectly shaped nostrils. He hitched his breath and let out a hehchooo! Heh-achoo! freely into the air. Kelsey grabbed the whole box of tissues this time, and placed it on Zach's lap for an easier access.

"Zach, let's go back to sleep." Kelsey got back into bed with Zach and rolled on her stomach. "I'm really tired. I bet you are too still?"

"Yeah." Zach blushed.

"Lets go to sleep then. Wake me up if you need anything, Zach." Kelsey gave Zach a kiss on his cheek and rolled over and fell asleep.

A few minutes later, Zach sneezed Hehchoo! into the covers, trying to muffle his sneeze.

Kelsey, half awake, muttered, "Bless you, love" to her sick husband

It was now ten o clock. Kelsey woke up and rolled over immediately to look over at her boyfriend, who was sleeping soundly. Still congested, he wasn't breathing out of his nose, but was snoring lightly through his mouth. He picked up a hand and put it over his mouth, and coughed harshly into it.

"Zach?" Kelsey propped herself up on her elbow, and moved closer to Zach. Obviously he was still asleep, since he didn't respond. Wow, he's even coughing in his sleep. He might be really sick... Kelsey thought to herself. She kissed Zach lightly on the top of his head and got out of bed. She went downstairs and found a movie on tv and began to watch it. About fifteen minutes later Zach stood at the top of the stairs with a blanket wrapped around him. Kelsey looked at him. "Good morning." She smiled.

"I woke up and you weren't there..." Zach said as he walked down the stairs.

Kelsey laughed, "Sorry, I couldn't stay in bed any longer. I was getting really anxious." She patted the seat next to her, motioning Zach to sit down. "How are you feeling?"

"Ehhh, better I guess." Zach sniffed, "My sinuses are like this." He opened his hand then closed it into a fist. "Throbbing."

"You were coughing in your sleep, dear. Pretty harshly, too." She turned the tv down and turned to Zach.

Zach shrugged, "It happens." Zach cuddled up deeper into his blanket and sniffed a bit, then muffled a heh-shoo! into his blanket. He groaned. "Agh, I'm so over this!" He moved like he was going to get up from the couch, but Kelsey grabbed his hand and pulled him back toward her.

"Bless you. You're alright, now...Don't get so dramatic." She kissed his hand.

"Heh-achhooo!"

"Bless you Zach." Kelsey got up and went to the kitchen to get some tissues for Zach. She sat back down on the couch and placed the box on Zach's lap. "It seems like the worst is over."

Zach gratefully took a tissue, folded it in half and gave his nose a hearty blow. "It seems that way." Zach agreed, nodding. He wiped the bottom of his nose and tossed the tissue into a wastebasket across the living room.

Kelsey muted the tv and took a deep breath. "Zach, I'm really sorry about that dare. That was horribly stupid on my part. I shouldn't have said anything, and I definitely wouldn't have made you do that if I knew you were going to get this sick."

Zach shot a fist up to his mouth and sneezed hehchoo into it. He shook his head, "No, Kels. I'm sorry for not being able to do it. Ever since we were little I did every dare you told me. I was so proud of it, but now my streak is gone. Not to mention I get all sick and whatever. I feel like I'm letting you down." He shrugged and sneezed again.

"Bless you." Kelsey cuddled herself up to closer to Zach, and kissed his neck, his instant weakness. "Actually," she began, rubbing circles on his chest "I think I saw both feet touch the other side of the bank."
