So, I just got done posting about childhood memories and that got me thinking that I would love to hear about things from the past and see who all remembers it!

For example:

Does anyone remember when Pepsi had come out with "Crystal Pepsi" which was a clear, lemonlime version of a cola??? It flopped miserably, but I still remember when that came out!

Or....

Does anyone remember having a pair of snowboots as a kid that would change color based on temperature???

Scrunchies anyone??? hehehehe

Let's hear it!!!
chui
*pulls scrunchie out of hair and hides it* nope... dont recall that at all!

does anyone remember when McDonald's (or maybe it was Burger King) sold hot dogs and Taco Bell sold french fries? (both of which flopped quickly)
blndeangeloflve
HA, it was McDonalds and yes, I remember the hot dogs. They also tried to sell pizza for a little while too huh????
SneezeChick523
I remember those boots! I had a few pairs over the years, and gloves and mittens, too. I miss those!

~Me
jenn
I have never heard of them boots lol but I bet they were pretty popular back in the day.

What about when everyone would *peg* their pants at least that is what they called it here where you folded the bottoms of your jeans up a certain way.
DawnieMarie
I still use scrunchies. yes.gif

Remember leg warmers! tonguesmiley.gif
ShiningLight
I don't remember Pepsi's lemon version, but I remember a few years ago I had this stuff called Kas. Its owned by pepsi I believe, and is essentially their version of the fanta line. Thing is, it actually tastes like fruit. However, it doesn't sell in the UK and USA because apparantly Fanta dominates the market.

I'm a bit young to do this effectively but does anyone remember tellytubbies? I was on that show...
blndeangeloflve
I remember cuffing pants--I also remember wearing two different color socks over each other and then folding them down to get a 'cool' look! HA! That was around the same time as the sideways ponytails, fishtail braids, off the shoulder shirts, and tying your shirt into a knot on one hip to look cool! LOL.

Yes, leg warmers! I owned like several pairs!

Anyone for crimping thier hair??? smile.gif hehehe

SL, you were on teletubbies??? Really????

Oh my word. Yup, I was a huge fan of the crimping iron. laughing.gif
jenn
I was going to say leggings also but they seem to be coming back in style now laughing.gif

Ah yes, we have so much in common...

Remember when people used to wear those green streamer things on their garters so that they peeped cheekily out under their turned down sock tops?

Remember when farthings were abolished and they made you buy two fruit chews for a Ha'penny.?

Remember when Uncle Mac first played "Right, said Fred" sung by Bernard Cribbins on the Light?
aquadyne14
omg - scrunchies! my friend and i started a 'business' making and selling them...mind you we only sold about 7 so i'm not sure if that counts as a business...lol

and different coloured socks - holy flashback batman!

remember levis 501's, cutting off the flap over the buttons, cutting the bottoms off to unravel and the folding over the calf part and pinning them with safety pins, the more the better? ya, umm, neither do i tonguesmiley.gif heehee

tizsa, you're funny tonguesmiley.gif sad, but i think i do too...laughing.gif

they sold hotdogs? how did i miss this? i remember the pizza though, was one of the few who actually thought it wasn't that bad...mind you if i think hot dogs are good, then anything pretty much goes wink.gif

I've got some old VHS tapes of the show from when my kids were young. Which episodes were you on?
morediscreetkid
McDonald's use to have a lobster roll too that was pretty good, and remember the ribwich, that was great.
blndeangeloflve
bwahahahahah the McRib!!! LOL so gross!!!

Anyone used to have a skip-it???

hahahah I used to pouf my bangs! The bigger, the better!! smile.gif Oh dear, I can't believe I just admitted that! hahahahahah

I used to have a very vast collection of troll dolls and my little ponies! Man, now that I think of it, I might still have them!

Also, does anyone remember the teddy bears that used to hold items in the clear plastic tummy? I cannot remember what they were called but you could put like trinkets or candy in the tummy and when you saw the bear from the front, you would see your treasure in the tummy.

hahahhahahaha

I also owned like 5 pairs of jellie shoes and they were my fav!!!

Well I remember Crystal Pepsi, but from what i recall it tasted exactly like normal Pepsi only it was clear.

Anybody remember Apple Slice? Slice was a lemon-lime soda that bragged about having much more lemon-lime taste than Sprite or 7Up, but it also had an orange and apple variety.

Here is the commercial for regular Slice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDBU22baUMI (We Got The Juice!)

Oh and since I ran into it, who else remmbers the greatest deodorant commercial of all time.

Just Older
I remember all that. Except the pants pinning thing and the colour changing boots.

Who remembers the "Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up" or the "I can't see the difference, can you see the difference?" (laundry soap) commercials?

What about Orbitz? It was a drink - clear with little coloured balls floating around in it.

Ninja Turtles 'action figures' .... with the bad guys, the van, pizza, and weapons.

Colour-changing Hot Wheels.

Hypercolor t-shirts ... those things were awesome!

I'd prefer not to say for the standard fetishy reasons, but I will say that I was verrrry cute.
blndeangeloflve
Resolution--Pepsi put out a drink called Pepsi Clear that came out right before Crystal Pepsi. The Pepsi Clear flopped too--as it was just cola without the caramel color. Crystal Pepsi was lemon lime flavored and clear smile.gif Nice that you remember that!! smile.gif

Ahhhh I remember Orbitz drinks! Everytime I ask if anyone remembers that they look at me like I am crazy! So funny! It had like geletin balls floating in a clear liquid, right??? So funny!!!

And I used to love hypercolor shirts! Thats Great JO!!!

Sneesee
I remember a lot of this stuff! I had the color changing mittens, but not the boots. Leg warmers, many layers of flourescent clothing, jelly shoes, jelly bracelets, friendship beads on my shoes. Remember how popular the white Keds canvas shoes were? Every girl had them!

How about a little game show on MTV called Remote Control? I loved that show with a passion! Adam Sandler was in it before he was famous. tonguesmiley.gif

I recall when MTV premiered "Thriller," by Michael Jackson, it was such a huge event, and my friends and I were glued to the TV.

I remember Telletubbies, well, because my oldest used to watch it when she was little. *Won't ask, but now wonders which kid was Shining Light* He he he.

I remember both Pepsi Clear, and Crystal Pepsi. And how some of the fast food joints tried to sell stuff that wasn't their stuff. And how badly they flopped.

Remember the New Coke, and how they had to bring Classic Coke back because nobody liked the new formula?

I also had the big poofy bangs, well into the time it was no longer fashionable. The bigger and poofier, the better. I have pics to prove it, too.

I had several Skip-its. Rolled my jeans at the bottom, too.

Gosh, so many memories!

Hypercolor t-shirts ... those things were awesome!

Oh my God, Hypercolor shirts! I had a purple one that turned pink, and I wore it for my 8th-grade class picture. THAT is how cool I thought it was. tonguesmiley.gif

I will shamelessly admit that I used to buy white t-shirts for the sole purpose of covering them in neon puff paint and then wearing one proudly, like it was a Versace. heh.gif I also was a fashion victim when it came to the black tights underneath denim shorts.

*sigh* Pathetic. heh.gif

Does anybody remember 15 cent white castles? When McDonald's advertised change back from your dollar? (You could get a hamburger, small fry and small coke for 99cents including tax). Does anybody remember when you did not get out of the car at the gas station? How about S & H green stamps? How about when cars did not come with seat belts, the brights switch was on the floor under your left foot, and the key went into the dashboard? Or just silly stuff like no cable tv, no microwave ovens, no cell phones, no internet, no pc's? Ok I'll stop now.
blndeangeloflve
Demon, I remember when cell phones just came out. I remember that before that, pagers were the big things. But even before then you always used to have to keep change on you in case you needed to stop at a payphone to call someone. I also remember when computers were floppy disk only and green screen. My first car did not have a radio and the horn was on the side of the steering wheel. We had seatbelts up front, but not in back. smile.gif We never had cable growing up anyways, and TV was not what it is like nowadays--we always played outside and had to use our imagination.

I also remember when I first started driving 11 years ago, gas was only 69 cents and I could fill my little Saturn (second car) up for under 7 bucks. Gaahhh, I miss those days. I thought about that last year when gas was around 4 dollars a gallon. Kids that were driving then will remember gas being that expensive when they first started driving and compared to when I first started, thats just sad.

Lynne
My kid still has a skip-it tonguesmiley.gif I never had one when I was little though. I did have original cabbage patch kids (my daughter has the preemie one now, apparently the redhead one got lost at some point). I used to watch Hulk Hogan & Friends on Saturday mornings, and He-Man and She-Ra biggrin.gif I crimped my hair, even though it was a long, arduous process (I have a lot of hair). I was about 15 when I figured out that it was easier to tie a bit off to one side, and just crimp that LOL

I never had legwarmers, well... I had them, but I refused to wear them. But I did do the spandex thing with long, baggy shirts, I had converse high tops, and trapper keeper binders smile.gif I also had a couple of those shirts that changed colour with the temperature, but no boots or mittens. Just t-shirts. I also had a few shirts that were neon coloured, pink, orange, green... bleh. What were we thinking?
ShiningLight
I have a neon green shirt NOW biggrin.gif
Leopold
HA! The recollection of Crystal Pepsi and Color-Changing Hot Wheels made me laugh quite hard just now. Well done.
How about snap bracelets and pogs? I watched Wayne's World the other day and in the opening scene they are channel surfing and commercials for Chia Pets and the Clapper were featured. The Clapper wasn't a half bad idea, but I have literally never met anyone who had one.

I remember when we had to walk 15 miles to school, in the snow and rain, there was no snow days back then, or plows for that matter. And it was two people to a jacket so that we could use body heat, or you'd freeze so fast you could snap your fingers off like carrot sticks. I remember when you could go to the grocery store with 50 cents and come back with two full bags of groceries, and none of this lunchables mumbojumbo or freezepops, you had cream of wheat and a can of beans and you thought it was a thanksgiving dinner. OOOO you kids don't know these days how good you have it. For entertainment we would sit around a candle and see how long we could stick our fingers in the hot wax.

Don't forget that those 15 miles to school were up a steep hill and, somehow, so was the walk back home from school.

Yes, I could do these all day;

Remember when you could go to the flicks, have a Cornish Mivvi in the interval, get the bus home, and still have change from a shiny half crown?

Remember when they took Hopalong Cassidy off and replaced it with one of these new-fangled "cartoon" programmes; like Popeye in "Spinach fer Britain" [now on Youtube; only 50 years' wait for the repeat]?

Remember when there was an outbreak of smallpox blamed on a consignment of corned beef shipped over during rationing and left for 13 years of Tory misrule?

And yet, if you tell that to these young people, they won't believe you!

What about Teddy Ruxpin? Now that's old school!

My best friend and I once kidnapped his sister's Teddy Ruxpin doll while she was out of the house, and put a porno tape in him. It was hilarious...his mouth was moving, but all these 'ooh's and 'ahhh's were coming out. biggrin.gif
blndeangeloflve
That teddy bear creeped me out!!!

Teddy Ruxpin cartoons. Those were weird.
What about slap bracelets?

Or ... GASP! Wooden playground structures ... before they were deemed unsafe all of a sudden.
Lynne
*snicker* My ten year old was all thrilled with the slap bracelet he found in one of the bedrooms at his grandma's house (probably belonged to one of my older nieces, since my ex's sisters would have been too old). He still has it lying around somewhere.

God I miss the old wooden "towers" at the park. Ours were about 15 feet high and there were two of them built about four feet apart. We used to run and climb ALL over those things - our favorite game was Pirate Ship. It was basically tag, only you weren't allowed to leave the play structure. The sand was the ocean, and if you fell in or jumped, you were out of the game. I remember days when there were fifteen or twenty of us running all over that thing, jumping across from one to the other, swinging around the outer edges of the structure to escape being tagged. Ironically, we didn't have safety nets, and nobody ever fell off and hurt themselves that I remember.
