I always hate it when anyone in my family sneezes. It's like the opposite of when anyone else sneezes... when it's family,
I find it utterly disgusting. My family is like unnaturally loud about it too... so annoying.
I was just wondering, does anyone else feel this way? I mean I'm pretty sure nobody would get turned on by their family
member sneezing, as you simply don't think of them that way, but does it annoy you???

Yes everest, I think a lot of us share a general distaste (or worse) of family members sneezing
You are definitely not alone on that one

Family members sneezing is probably the worst thing in the entire world.

I hate it with more than just a passion.
My dad has bad allergies and has fits a lot...I have to run out of the room and turn my iPod up veeeery loudly. EWW. D:

Ew! I know, isn't it just the worst!!! I hate it when anyone in my family (especially immediate family) sneezes and especially has a cold.
I am so uncomfortable when my dad blows his nose/sneezes (because hes REALLY loud) that I actually have to leave the room and turn on my music until I know he's finished

Uggghh. So annoying. Luckilly my mom is a single sneezer most of the time, so I only have to deal with it for a split second. My dad lives overseas, but it seems like everytime he comes home he has a cold, so I have to put up with his ear-splitting sneezes. I'm not a fan of scream-sneezes in the first place, so him being the sneezer makes it doubly gross. The worst is when my mom blows her nose, especially at church. It sounds like a trumpet and I just want to melt into my seat and die.

(I don't have the nose-blowing fetish though.)
I think the reason why this is so traumatic for us is because we associate sneezing with arousal, so if a relative sneezes we basically equate them to them trying to commit incest with us.

(But according to Freud, incest is an innate human desire... along with killing and cannibalism of course.)

That's exactly what I was going for.

I just got done with a Freud unit in one of my classes, so I know all about his screwed-upped-ness.
But anyway (to get back on topic), does anyone agree with my theory or have one of their own?

Well the discipline of Psychology itself rests on the basics of what Freud said, but his outlandish ideas are more associated with him outside of the academic world than his other ideas are. Among the general public, the others usually just get labeled as "basic Psychology" and aren't associated with him. In reality, the only reason people even care about his controversial/outlandish ideas was because of how influential he was apart from them (and for the record, I'm no fan of Freud as a person). In the 19th century there definitely was no shortage of writers who offered
nothing but crackpot ideas, including controversial ones. Their names are entirely unknown by most people today, as opposed to Freud's which is one of the most recognized on the planet.

No I didn't say it was "wrong", i was just expressing my own reaction to the idea of it ("eww").
Sort of like if someone brought up a food they liked and someone else responded "eww".

Ah, but the way you stated it was "Sternuto, I can understand cousins, but the rest of those... eww". That brings it to a slightly more personal level. You're not simply expressing your opinion, you're denigrating his. Just tread carefully, that's all I'm saying.

I can't stand my sister's sneezing, it pisses me off soooo much.
She always sneezes doubles, and she does it quite often. I always hear her in her room and I can't help but shudder haha.
But you know what the worst part is? They'd probably be sneezes I'd find attractive if she wasn't my sister

I've always hated my parents' sneezes. My dad rarely ever sneezes, but my mom has fits. Every day. For no particular reason. Apparently she's allergic to the newspaper (the soot), so I suppose that's why, but it's just... ew. Once, when I was little, I actually had a nightmare about her sneezing into a microphone or something, and me not being able to run away. It was really unpleasant.

Omg, guys, my dad started coming down with a cold on Christmas Eve and it was SO TRAUMATIZING. My family is crazy healthy, so not only am I not used to him being sick, but I was unable to escape the experience, it being Christmas and all. My closest cousin had a cold for Christmas too (wth) which normally I would have freaked at, but the dad-sneezing kind of eclipsed everything else, haha.

Ugh. My mom's in particular make me want to scream and pull my hair out. Yes they are that bad. Ok so pretend you're at one end of street and my mom's at the other.(Were talking one looooooong street here) If she sneezes you can still hear her loud and clear. Allergy season is the absolute worse since shes allergic to practically everything and she 'doesn't believe in allergy pills'

Both my mom and dad sneeze loud, and I hate it!
I remember once when one of my brother's friends was over, he sneezed, and stifled it completly.
My mom had said, in her usual over eager tone of talking with him, "Oh my god! You sneeze completly silent! I can do that to!"
I was in the room at the time, and part of me wanted to scream, "It's a stifle you idiot! And you never do it!"
But what I actually said was,
"Yeah, sure you do, when your not belting them out at the top of your lungs"
She was mad, and said, "It's good to let them out sometimes."
I almost puked. The conversation was just way too...

When I was in the car once my dad sneezed what seemed like a million times, and when
I said nothing afterwards, he said like I was 5-years-old, "You know what you're supposed to say after someone
sneezes? 'Bless you'."
I just nodded subtly when I really wanted so scream, "Yes, I know this! And maybe if I wasn't so thoroughly repulsed I would do it!"
